Non-Dive Itineraries
The Seychelles offer a number of activities in addition to diving as does The Indian Ocean Explorer.
There is excellent snorkelling almost everywhere one looks. Many of the snorkelling spots are close to the beach although the best spots are just off rocky shorelines. In parallel to diving activities, we bring you to the best places for viewing the most colourful coral, fish, turtles, rays and other varieties of sea life.
Beaches: The beaches of the Seychelles are well known for their beauty and uniqueness. Ringed by storybook palms and granite cliffs, crystal clear waters lap along powder white coral shorelines. Want to spend an entire day in peace on the beach? No problem, we'll take you there!
Fly Fishing: The Seychelles offer a true paradise for fly fishing enthusiasts. Although this activity is relatively new to the islands, The Indian Ocean Explorer is at the forefront of the trend and has been offering fly fishing expeditions for a number of years.
The Valley of Mai. Imagine a place which has only been discovered 50 years ago: a forest that had lain undisturbed for centuries, thick with native Seychelles plant life. The most special of all is the "coco de mer palm" of which only 4000 exist in the world. "Coco de mer" palms are either male or female, however, there is no visible difference until the first time the tree blossoms. This can take 15 to 40 years to happen! The Valley of Mai is one of the smallest areas to be designated a World Wildlife Preserve. For those who wish to witness the "coco de mer" in its natural setting, a trip to the Valley de Mai National Park is in order.
Bicycle and Ox Cart: On Praslin, Mahé and La Digue bicyclists predominate. On La Digue we become acquainted with the island by bicycle or ox cart. Today, the ox cart on La Digue serves as a tourist attraction as well as a method of local transportation.
